BWS Monthly Meeting

Ever have doubts about plein air painting? Like, what do I need and, once you’re there, what do I do?!?

Jacki Frey and Tricia Wente will share their experience and advice on plein air painting, including suggestions for equipment and how to proceed. Then, we will have a nice, long painting session. Hope to see you there!

Stuff to bring to the meeting:
Paints, paper, outdoor photos.

SPRING WORKSHOP

Jeanne McLeish, well-known Indiana watercolorist, will present our spring workshop on Saturday, June 2, from 9:00 – 4:00. Artists will meet in room 1C at the Monroe County Public Library at the beginning; then, if weather permits, we will move outside to various spots around the library. Jeanne will offer critiques and suggestions as we progress.

Cost of the all-day workshop is $40 and space is limited to fifteen members only, so don’t hesitate! First come, first served. (Note: if there is extra space after all members have had the opportunity to enroll, then it will be opened up to other interested parties.)

CONGRATULATIONS

Tricia Wente and Jacki Frey were both accepted into the Indiana Artist Club 75th Annual Exhibition. Paintings will exhibit at the Indiana Art Museum from April 22 through June 3.


Tricia also participated in the Hamilton, Ohio Boys Club auction in February. Her pastel portrait commission raised $3,500 for their organization. Way to go, Tricia!

Gallery North's latest exhibit features Jerry Smith and Joel Knapp. Opening reception for the show is this Friday during the Gallery Walk, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. You won't want to miss this one! Jerry conducted BWS's spring workshop in 2006, and his paintings of the Irish coast are outstanding.

Jeanne Iler will teach Creative Drawing classes on Tuesdays, April 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Shower's Building, Hooker's Conference Room, #245.Contact Bloomington Parks & Recreation. www.bloomington.in.gov/parks. Cost: $23-in city/$27 non-city.

"Iris Painting" Monday, April 2nd, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

"Texturing Techniques and Seagull Painting" Monday, April 16th, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

"Painting with a Big Brush” Wednesday, April 25th, 1:00-4:00 p.m.

These classes meet at Michael’s on the west side and the cost is $15 for Monday classes, $20 for the Wednesday class, plus supplies.

• On the first Saturday of every month, Ragazzi’s on Rogers Street is sponsoring an open air artists market. April’s is this Saturday, the 7th from 1:00 – 4:00.
