The May meeting of the Bloomington Watercolor Society was called to order at 6:10 p.m. by Joanne Weddle, President. She thanked the members who had provided refreshments (Barb Cappy, Jodi Estell, Gillian Harris, and Steve Jackson).

Joanne thanked Jeanne Dutton for taking the minutes at the April 12 meeting in the Secretary’s absence and asked the members for any corrections. There being none Sue Haverstock motioned for acceptance of the minutes as found on the blog/website and Jerry Harste seconded the motions. The members approved the motion.

The treasurer’s report was read by Carol Rhodes and the members were reminded that the annual dues deadline is June. Acceptance of the treasurer’s report was proposed by Jeanne Dutton and seconded by Bob Talbot. The members present accepted the report unanimously.

Committee Reports were made.

Paint Out
Members were reminded that the next BWS paint out is being held in conjunction with the T.C. Steele Festival of Flowers PaintOut on May 15th. Members may choose to compete in the T. C. Steele competition or may just go and paint at the Historic Site. There is also a SketchCrawl on that day and paintings/drawings can be posted on the SketchCrawl web site if desired.

Also, on May 15th, a set of BWS artists will be exhibiting works at the Meadowood Art in the Garden event from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be music provided and plants for sale. Members are encouraged to attend.

There will be a paint out in June on the 12th at Meadowood. A sign-up sheet was provided.

Activities/Workshops
Kriste Lindberg, Activities/Workshop Chair, reported on the BWS workshop by Sandy Maudlin is full. It will held on May 22, 2010, between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at First Christian Church. Kriste thanked Carol Rhodes for the work to collect the class payments and to purchase the BWS provided supplies for the workshop. Attendees for the workshop are reminded that lunch on May 22 is free form (bring your own or bring something to share).

Shows
Shows Chair, Tricia Wente, thanked Jeanne Dutton, Bob Anderson and Susan Blunck for their help at the very successful reception and paint out at the Columbus Learning Center in Columbus, Indiana on April 17. Jeanne Iler showed the painting of pansies that she did at that paint out. Tricia said that there is a possibility that paintings that were done on-site at the Learning Center that day may become part of a new show but the details are yet to be worked out. BWS received a thank you from the head of the IU International Harp competition for inviting a harpist and for distributing information about the competition to be held on July 7 through the 17. There may be an invite for BWS members to paint at the competition. The details will be provided as they are nailed down.

Signature Status Awards
Second Vice-President, Dan Alexander reported that four applications were received for Signature Status and that the judging had been completed. Official awards will be made at the June meeting.

Old Business:
Nancy Davis-Metz discussed the BWS Notecard project. She thanked those who had followed the email instructions on how to submit a picture for judging. For those who had problems with the emailed process, she passed around typed instructions on how to submit a picture without having to create a g-mail account for each person that wants to participate.

There was no New Business.

The following announcements were made:
1. Members are reminded to check the website and the blog for communications about BWS business and activities.
2. In particular the minutes of prior meetings will NOT be read at the following meeting; they will be posted on the blog and members should read them so that they can be voted upon at the next meeting.
3. Members should plan ahead for the December meeting because that meeting will be a ATC (Artist Trading Card) session and with a membership of 83, it may take a little time to have enough cards for all who attend.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. based on a motion by Jean Iler which was seconded by Gillian Harris.

Following the business meeting a program was presented by member Nancy Davis Metz. Nancy demonstrated some of the warm-up exercises that various watercolor artists/instructors have suggested are useful things to do before jumping into the real work that artists want to accomplish.

Respectfully submitted,

Charlotte Ann Griffin, Secretary 2010
