BWS Meeting Minutes March 10, 2008

A. Call to Order – Jeanne Dutton, President, called the meeting to order at 6:10 p.m. at the Monroe County Public Library.

B. Minutes - February 11, 2008 - There were no additions or corrections to the minutes which had previously been distributed via the blog. Jeanne Iler made a motion to approve the minutes which was seconded by Meri Reinhold. Motion carried.

C. Treasurer’s Report – Carol Rhodes distributed copies of the Treasurer’s Report. Total balance as of February was $1,667.57. There are 56 standard members and 2 student memberships as of this date.

D. New Members and Guests – Jeanne welcomed and introduced new member, Betty Wagoner, and one guest, Jeanne’s granddaughter, Ellie Willibey.

E. Refreshments – Thanks were expressed to Susan Blunck for providing refreshments. A sign-up sheet was circulated for volunteers to help with refreshments at meetings from April through June.

F. Old Business
1. Bloomington Watercolor Website – Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to send their bio and one image to Members@bloomingtonwatercolor.org. The bio should be no longer than 250 words.
2. Mailing List – A mailing list is being compiled into Excel. Members are asked to send mailing list entries to the above e-mail address. Postcards for the membership show will go out in June.
3. Signature Status – Jeanne Iler announced that the deadline for applications is this evening. So far five applications have been received. Rod Crossman will serve as judge the when he is in Bloomington to present his workshop on April 26. Applicants should submit three original paintings.
4. Paint Outs – Alice Sharp distributed the 2008 Paint Out Schedule. Opportunities run from April 5 – October 6. Dates, times and locations will be listed on the BWS website. Alice also mentioned a Monroe County Courthouse Paint Out which will be held on April 26.
5. Bloomington Watercolor Society Flyers – A large supply is available for members to use and distribute.
6. Rod Crossman Workshop – Saturday, April 26, First Christian Church, Kirkwood and Washington. Registration fees are due this evening. There is a small waiting list.

G. New Business
1. Sycamore Land Trust & Gallery North – Jeanne Iler shared information about six Sycamore Land Trust Nature Preserves which artists are invited to visit. Jeanne also distributed information about dates and deadlines for an upcoming juried art show at Gallery North sponsored by Gallery North and two Sycamore Land Trust paint out opportunities. 2. Brown County Art Gallery – Jeanne Iler announced that the Bloomington Watercolor Society membership in the Brown County Art Gallery is up for renewal. Cost is $25 per year. Connie Brorson made a motion to renew the membership. Motion was seconded by Bob Burris. Motion carried.
3. Brown County Art Gallery Foundation sent an invitation for their 14th Annual Victorian Tea to be held on Sunday, April 13, 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. Art, custom jewelry and other items will be for sale. There will also be a fashion show, door prizes and raffle items. Cost is $25 per person by paid reservation only. Deadline is Monday, April 7.
4. Jacki Frey will have a show at Gallery North during the month of April. There will be an opening reception from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on April 4.
5. Linda Meyer-Wright was unable to make a presentation this evening due to an accident. She will give the program in May. Jeanne Dutton thanked Jeanne Iler and Jacki Frey for jumping in at the last minute to provide a program in Linda’s absence.

H. Motion to adjourn was made by Jeanne Iler and seconded by Jacki Frey. Meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.

I. A program was presented by Jeanne Iler and Jacki Frey on painting still lifes including unity, shadow, and the technique of using “trash” paper for determining composition.

Paint Outs labeled BWS represent events sponsored by the Bloomington Watercolor Society. Others are listed for your information. All BWS Paint Outs are from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, unless noted below. Bring a sack lunch and painting supplies. Directions will be emailed to the group before each event. Interested in learning more about plein air watercolor painting? If so, you're welcome to attend.
