The beautiful grounds of the Oliver Winery is backdrop for our next paint-out and annual chili carry-in.  Bring your paint supplies and a side dish, bread/cornbread, dessert or snacks to share and join us for a day of painting and a sumptuous picnic.  Bowls, spoons and napkins will be provided.  Of course, Oliver wine will be available for purchase.  Layer your clothing as the weather may be on the cool side.  Come, rain or shine, and spend the day with good companions, food, wine, and painting.

Paint a Cemetery Project

BWS has been invited by the Monroe County Historical Society to produce paintings of Monroe County cemeteries.  Thirteen of the paintings will be selected for publication in the 2014 calendar and, yes, appropriate attributions will be applied.
The paintings are due by July of 2013, so this gives you several months and seasons to produce your painting.  More information and a signup sheet will be available at the next BWS meeting on October 8.  Some of the Monroe County Cemeteries can be found on the Monroe County Website: http://monroehistory.org Look for “Cemetery of the Month” where you will find photos and driving instructions.  Also check out the archive of cemeteries featured in previous months.

If you have questions or cannot come to the next BWS meeting, contact Betty Wagoner at 812-323-3869 or blw89@yahoo.com.

MEMBER ART SHOW
NOVEMBER 2-30, 2012

The inaugural Member Art Show will be on view in T. C. Steele's Large Studio from November 2 - 30, 2012, with an opening reception Friday, November 2, from 6-8 pm, featuring wine and hors d'oeuvres, along with live musical entertainment. Instead of a juried show, the Member Art Show is an inclusive exhibition, offering artists at all stages in their career a chance to take their place within the proud artistic tradition launched at the House of the Singing Winds over a century ago.

Submissions may be in any medium, and applications must be received by October 15, 2012. You may download a PDF of the application form from the Friends website, at
ww.tcsteele.org/programs.

If you're not already a Member of the Friends, but would like to exhibit in the Member Art Show, this is an excellent time to join. When you become a Member at the $25 individual level or above by October 15, your $10 show registration fee will be waived.

Artwork exhibited in the Member Art Show will be for sale, with 80% of the sale price returning to the artist and 20% benefiting programming at the T. C. Steele State Historic Site, designed to inspire yet others through our shared cultural heritage. Plesae take this special opportunity to share your art with those who'll be visiting the T. C. Steele State Site this November, while making or renewing your connection with the flagship location of the Art Colony of the Midwest.

Words of Wisdom

"When a painting fails, I no longer owe that piece of paper anything, nor does it owe me something. Then I am free to play and experiment. Instead of struggling to 'fix' some offending area, I can ignore my original theme and begin again. The old painting may become a background for a new one. Sometimes I turn the paper upside down or turn a horizontal into a vertical."   --  Barbara Nechis, from her book, Watercolor From the Heart.  Shared by Jacki Frey.
