Brushstrokes -- November 2012

November's Meeting
Two very important events take place at the November meeting.  First, the Nominating Committee will present the slate of 2013 officers for your approval.  Second, the proposed amendment to the by-laws must be approved by a 2/3 majority of the membership.

It was brought to the attention of the board that it is typical in an organization's by-laws to outline how to dissolve an organization.  Even though our BWS is a vibrant and lively organization, we should think ahead.  In doing so, the proposed amendment was made.  If you cannot attend the meeting to vote, you will be contacted by Charlotte Griffin, BWS secretary, who will ask for your vote.

The following is the proposed text of the Amendment:
Article XIV— Dissolution of Organization
Dissolution of BWS shall be proposed to the membership by the Executive Board, based on a majority vote of that Board. The decision to dissolve the Bloomington Watercolor Society shall be by 2/3 majority vote of active members of the society. Votes may be cast as outlined in Article XIII. The Executive Board will dispose of the physical assets. Those items useful to teachers shall be given to Teacher's Warehouse or an equally appropriate 501c3 organization. The remaining items shall be disposed of at the discretion of the Board. The treasury shall be used to pay any outstanding BWS debts. The remaining funds after payment of debts will be given to the Foundation of Monroe County Community Schools to support the BWS Art Scholarship, established in 2012.

After the business meeting, in preparation for the contest at the holiday party, you will have the opportunity to learn how to create 3D watercolors, a.k.a. Aquagami, a term coined by BWS friend, Judi Betts.  There will be interactive demonstrations by Nancy Metz, Nina Ost, Jeanne Dutton, and maybe a couple others.
Here's your supply list:
1. Your old watercolors that you have considered throwing away (all sizes)
2. Scissors or craft knives
3. Glue sticks
4. Cutting mats
5. Bone folders

BWS Note Cards make good holiday gifts
Margret Kingery will have note cards for sale at the November meeting.  The set of eight note cards sells for $12. Please have exact change; checks are accepted.

Paint a Cemetery Project - Update
It is not too late to sign up for the Paint a Cemetery Project.  This is a collaborative effort between the Monroe County History Center and the Bloomington Watercolor Society.  BWS members are asked to produce paintings of Monroe County cemeteries.  Thirteen of the paintings will be selected for publication in the 2014 calendar.  The due date for the paintings is July 15, 2013.

You may sign up at a BWS monthly meeting or by contacting Betty Wagoner at blw89@yahoo.com or call 812-323-3869.  Painters may select a cemetery or ask for assistance in selecting a cemetery.  A cemetery may be painted by more than one painter.  It is not necessary to select a cemetery before signing up for the Project.  Some of the Monroe County Cemeteries can be found on the Monroe County History Center Website: http://monroehistory.org  Look for “Cemetery of the Month” where photos and driving instructions can be found.  A map of Monroe County and Bloomington that plots cemeteries can be purchased at the Bloomington Visitor Center for $3.

Members took a break from painting to enjoy a carry-in chili lunch.

October 2012 Paint Out – Oliver Winery!
Despite cool, breezy conditions on Saturday, Oct. 13, 20 or so BWS members and guests showed up in force, complete with paint supplies and, yes, a table full of tasty treats! This was our last paint out of the season and it sure went out with a, well… POP!
Good food and drink was shared and enjoyed by all.
Several mentioned they’d like to see this become a regular event for us. What do you think? We’d love to hear from you.
Please bring your paintings to our November meeting!
Thanks to all who participated.
Your hosts:  Kriste Lindberg and Betty Wagoner
Lost and Found:  A nice green/metal chair with the name “1993 Masters” was left behind; please let us know if it is yours.

Heidi Heiser has been named BWS's first
honorary member, in recognition of all the
design work she has donated to the
organization. She has been designing
postcards and other pieces promoting BWS
shows and projects.
