BRUSHSTROKES

Bloomington Watercolor Society

DATES and UPDATES
JUNE Meeting - Monday the 9th, 6:00 p.m.
We are back at the MCPL, Room 1C
This will be our last meeting before the July membership show and Tricia Wente, show coordinator, will be polishing off the finer details. If you cannot come to the meeting, please contact Tricia@Wente.com with questions.
The reception is during Gallery Walk on July 11th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Nancy Metz is the reception chair. We will need wine and other refreshments, such as cookies, crackers and dip, veggies and other finger foods, so please contact Nancy, nmetz@indiana.edu, or Tricia to let them know what you can bring.
All members are welcome and encouraged to take part in the show! Please let Tricia know immediately if you plan to participate. The Show Guidelines are posted on this blog.
After the business session at Monday's meeting, Jacki Frey will summarize and demonstrate Rod Crossman's approach to painting watercolor abstracts. Bring your paint supplies and dive in - abstracts are fun!
Also, all artists who attended the Rod Crossman workshop, please bring your work - finished or unfinished - to share. (Sammye Smith's painting is hanging at tutto bene - good work, Sammye!)

Just a reminder: dues are due by June 30th. You may bring a check (or cash!) to the meeting on Monday, or mail a check to BWS at the address near the bottom of this page.

Second reminder: Our next meeting is not until September, but lots of activities are happening between now and then so keep watching your email and this blog for more dates and updates.

Reminder three: The Judi Betts workshop is looking like a "go," but we need a few more enrollees to pay the expenses. Please register at the Sunrise Box Office at the Buskirk-Chumley theatre by July 1, or go on-line to BloomingtonArts.info, click "August 4," then "Buy Tickets."

JUNE 6( Tonight!)
CRITTERS opening at Gallery North on the Square. Look for the posters and postcards and Gallery North's ad in Bloom - they all feature BWS member Cathy Korinek's "Study of Black and White in Color." This exhibit runs through June 27 and you don't want to miss it. It's really quite fun!

JUNE 10
Deadline for submitting your entry for "Art for all Seasons," the Sycamore Land Trust juried show. You may find the entry form and all the information at http://www.gallery-north.org/images/slt.pdf
Although many of you are new to the juried show scene, it isn't nearly as intimidating as it may appear to us newbies. It's paint, photograph, submit, and wait. Just follow the details outlined in the prospectus and it will go smoothly. Contact Jeanne Iler at jeanne2@bluemarble.net for information, answers, and encouragement.

CONGRATULATIONS
Gillian Harris, new member of BWS, currently has two paintings in "Focus on Nature X: Natural and Cultural History Illustration" at the New York State Museum in Albany, NY. One of Gillian's watercolors was accepted into the upcoming 64th Annual Wabash Valley Exhibition at the Swope Art Museum in Terre Haute.

Cathy Korinek also has a work of art which was accepted at the Swope exhibit.

Johnnie Belinda has a one-woman show at Box Car Books, June 5 through June 29. The opening reception is this evening, June 6th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. The show is "Abstracts through the Intutive Mind." For those who are open to the intuitive arts, Johnnie will be giving mini psychic readings at the reception.

Nine - count 'em - Nine! pieces of work by BWS members were accepted into the Couthouse Centennial Exhibit. Congratulations to Tricia Wente, Sammye Smith, Jeanne Iler, Carolyn Rogers Richard, Linda Meyer-Wright, and Jane Jensen.
If you haven't seen this show, come downtown to the Monroe Bank on Kirkwood before the meeting on Monday and take a look. It's really splendid!

Festival of Flowers at T.C. Steele last month brought prizes to four members: Jacki Frey, first in watercolors, Bob Burris, second, and an honorable mention to Donna Kleusner. Sammye Smith won second in pastels.

Carol Rhodes, our lifelong treasurer and computer specialist, has an article about Photoshop use which is published on ArtBistro.com. You can find it at http://www.artbistro.com/training/articles/1946-6-steps-to-using-masks-in-photoshop. Look there for links, also, to I.U. training materials.

WELCOME
to new members Linda Endris and Betty David. Glad to have you joining us!
