The minutes were posted on the blog, and Cathy Korinek moved to accept them, seconded by Mary Reinhold. The motion was passed.

Carol Rhodes, treasurer, presented her report, stating that the balance is $1963.08. The motion was passed.

Election of Officers
Alice Sharp thanked the current officers and introduced the slate of officers for 2009, which includes Nancy Davis Metz, president; Jeanne Dutton, 1st vice president; Shelly Ritter, 2nd vice president; Jo Weddle, secretary; and Carol Rhodes, treasurer. Alice thanked Jo and Carol for accepting their positions for another year. The membership voted unanimously to accept the slate of officers as presented.

Pouring Paint Workshop
There are four remaining seats for Jeanne Iler’s Pouring Paint Workshop on Sunday, November 16, from 1:00 – 3:00. It will be held at Tricia Wente’s Art House on West 17th Street. It was suggested that a sign be posted at the entrance to the driveway, and Jeanne Dutton will do that on Sunday. Jeanne also thanked Jeanne Iler for offering the workshop, and Tricia for loaning her Art House to BWS.

Christmas/Holiday Party
The annual Christmas/holiday party and installation of officers will take place at Gallery North on the Square on our regular meeting night, Monday, December 8, at 6:30. The Bloomington Cooking School will cater the event. Members may bring wine, and Oliver Winery’s Sky Dog wine will be served along with a non-alcoholic punch and spiced cider.

Tina Allgood, 2nd vice president, is organizing the event, and will need volunteers to set up at 5:30, and volunteers to help clean up afterward. An email will be sent to members asking for volunteers and card tables.

The tickets are $10 per member, and $12 for guests. Reservations must be made by December 1.

There will be a holiday decoration contest with prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. The only rules are, it has to be 3-D, and it has to be watercolor….the ornaments will serve as centerpieces, and the members will vote to determine the winners! Bring your entry with you to the party.

By-Laws
Jeanne announced that the by-laws had been approved by a 2/3 majority of the membership. Cathy Korinek asked about posting them on the website, and that will be done soon.

There was no other old business.

NEW BUSINESS
Library Exhibiting Opportunity
Shelly Ritter recently had an exhibit at the downtown Monroe County Public Library in their hallway gallery. Prices are not allowed to be posted, but the artist’s name, the medium, and the title may be posted. Business cards may be left also. Shelly brought and shared application forms.

Connie Brorson announced she will be exhibiting in the City Hall Atrium throughout the month of December and invited everyone to come take a look at the show. BWS will be holding its membership show there in 2009.

Jeanne thanked Kathy Karnes, Susan Blunck, and Nancy Metz for bringing refreshments.

Jacki Frey moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Dan Alexander, and then Jacki led the group in a creative painting exercise.

Respectfully submitted,
Jeanne Dutton

At the Party

What a great time we had at the Christmas party! Gallery North was a perfect setting for a group of 40 artists and guests. The food from Bloomington Cooking School was delicious, and many thanks go to Tina Allgood, our 2009 hospitality chairperson, for organizing and coordinating the party. Thanks to all those who brought chairs and tables, and those who chipped in to set up and clean up.

Thanks, too, to those who participated in the Aquagami contest. What terrific entries - there were eleven! Congratulations to the winners. Carol Rhodes took first place with her tiny painted birdhouse. Carol received a gift certificate to Pygmalion's. Other winners were Cathy Korinek, 2nd place, for her charming reindeer ornament, and 3rd, Nina Ost for her beautiful boxes painted with watercolor.

Your past president, this editor, was delighted and honored to receive a thank you gift from the membership - a wonderful paint brush (works great, too!) and a travel size sketch book which just fits in my purse. Thank you all very much.

Here are some great photos of the party taken by Tricia Wente. Thanks, Tricia! Note on the tables the centerpieces which were the entries for the contest.

Location: Worker Farm, 2530 N. Loesch Rd., Bloomington, IN 47404.
Contact Shelly at: 812-679-8879 or shelnew70@yahoo.com.

BWS Outreach Opportunity
BWS is beginning a new type activity - an outreach program to take our artistic skills and knowledge to the community in various small ways. The following is the first of these opportunities for BWS members to share the wealth of talent!
If you have a project that comes to mind or a group who would like to hear about watercolor, email your activities director (hey, that's me!) at jeanne.dutton@att.net. This is the first in our program.

Shelly Ritter teaches an abstract expressionism art class at Redbud Retirement Community. Her students, usually four or five per class, range in age from 85 to 100 years! The students' favorite medium is watercolor and they love to explore new techniques. The students would like to invite anyone to share their watercolor techniques, style, and art work any Tuesday morning from 10:30 am – Noon. Please contact Shelly directly.

You can catch an exhibition of these Senior Students' work at Bloomingfoods East and Downtown this entire month of January. It's part of the BloomingArts Series.
