BWS BRUSHSTROKES

April 2008

DATES and UPDATES
Monthly Meeting
Monday, April 14
6:00 P.M.
Room 1C, MCPL

Two special events are scheduled for the meeting. First, Tricia Wente will present the Signature Status awards.

Second, many beginners feel uninformed about how to mat and frame their work. I know I did! And so we have arranged, in anticipation of the membership show coming up in July, to have Ellen Starr Lyon, assistant manager at Frameworks and professional framer, discuss how to mat and frame your watercolor works! Ellen will also talk about the importance of using archival materials, conserving your art, and various other aspects. Don't miss this one!

Courthouse Centennial Celebration
The Monroe County courthouse is celebrating its 100th year "under the fish" and here's an opportunity for BWS members and family and friends, too. Monroe Bank is sponsoring a contest for all artists, amateur and professional alike, to submit up to three paintings. One category is for school age artists, elementary through high school.
The chosen works will be displayed at Monroe Bank. The deadline for submitting is THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 18!! Find all the details at http://www.artlives.org/documents/MonroeBank2.pdf

Here is a portion of the news release from March 7:
Monroe Bank is proud to partner with the Monroe County Commissioners and the Bloomington Area Arts Council to invite local artists and art institutions to produce original art works to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Monroe County Courthouse. The artworks – whose subject matter must be the Monroe County Courthouse – will be exhibited for four months in the Monroe Bank Art Gallery at the Kirkwood Banking Center at 210 E. Kirkwood Avenue in Bloomington from Monday, May 19 to Saturday, September 20. A reception to view the artworks and meet the artists would be held on Thursday, May 22 at 5:30 pm at the Monroe Bank Art Gallery. Best of Show winners will also be announced at this time. In addition, some of the artworks will also be featured on the commemorative invitation postcard to be sent out for the event by Monroe Bank.

A paint out on Saturday, April 26, is also arranged. Contact BAAC at ed@artlives.org for information. Paintings from this informal paint out, if submitted to BAAC by April 29th, will be considered for inclusion in the Monroe Bank exhibit.
