Meeting Minutes, May 14, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m. at the First Christian Church in the Great Hall on the second floor.  BWS President, Jeanne Dutton thanked the Hospitality/Cheer chair, Jo Weddle and her helpers for arranging for meeting refreshments.  Refreshments were provided by Bob Anderson, Joan Shank, Jan Britton, Zoe Dean and Margret Kingrey provided decor. 

The minutes of the last meeting (April 9, 2012) were available on the Blog and no additions or corrections were found from the members in attendance. Candi Bailey motioned for acceptance and Cassidy Young seconded the motion.  The members accepted the minutes unanimously as written.


Reports:


Membership:  Betty Wagoner passed out copies of the membership list to those who were at the meeting and asked she be informed of any errors so that she could correct them. 


Treasurer: The Treasurer's Report was read by the Treasurer Carol Rhodes. 


Publicity:  Deborah Rush has created a flyer about BWS paint-outs that will be available at the TC Steele Paint-Out on May 19. 

Membership/Signature Status: The Signature Status process has been exercised and the new signature members will be announced at the next meeting.

Conference: Nancy Metz told the membership that the Board is going forward with the conference based on the number of committed registrants on the day of the deadline.  It is expected that more people will register. After a small hiatus, the conference committee will focus on publicity aimed at upping the registration for the whole conference and for the paint-out on Sunday.

Programs:  Cassidy Young, Program chair, reminded members that the program at the next meeting will be presented by Vi Working.  Vi will show us various Dry Brush techniques.  Vi suggests bringing a flat brush white (acrylic fiber) brush, white paint, and at least one color.  Prepared paper will be provided.

Scholarship Committee:  Jeanne Dutton passed around donor cards for members who would like to add to the funds for the BWS Scholarship.

Paint Outs:                 

·         The May paint-out will be at T.C. Steele Historic Site.  On May 19, there are fees for attendance and parking for this day at T.C. Steele and artist who compete must have pre-register.  See Festival of Flowers Paint Out for information about the T.C. Steele event.

·         The June paint-out will be hosted by Connie Brorson at Meadowood.  There will be a box-lunch provided at the Meadowood paint-out.  Email will be sent out prior to the June 16 Paint-out at Meadowood soliciting a count of attendees so that the needed number of lunches will be available.

Old Business:

Notecards: Margret Kingrey offered packets of 8 for $12 to anyone who desired them. 

New Business: None


Announcements:  

  • Charlotte Griffin collected 13 paintings from members in order to build a show that will be held on May 19 at Hilltop Garden and Nature Center.  It is a one day show associated with the Hilltop event entitled “Celebrate Urban Birds”.
  • Jeanne Dutton talked about Historical Society’s request for BWS participation in the Cemetery Project which asks for artist’s renderings of Monroe County’s old cemeteries.  The art will be used to create a calendar.  She asks that any members who are interested in participating contact her.
  • Joanne Shank reminded members about the Open Studio Tours on June 2 and 3.  For more information go to BEAD Open Studios.   Joanne also mentioned that the Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington group called Artists After Hours will meet Wednesday, May 23 at 5:30 pm at the Monroe County Library, room 1-c, and the topic this month is Pursuing one's artistic passions upon retirement, presented in conjunction with the Creative Aging Festival with Julie Hill. The business meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. After a 10 minute break Betty Wagoner gave a program that showed how to make the adjunct figures that you add to your watercolor landscapes appear more active and realistic.
