Jeanne Ellen Dutton, president, called the meeting to order at 6:15 at the Monroe County Public Library.

The minutes of the March meeting were distributed via the BWS blog and approved. Thank you to Carol who substituted this meeting as secretary in place of Jo Weddell, who was traveling Europe.

The treasurer’s report was presented by Carol Rhodes, treasurer, and approved as presented.

Copies of the Paint Out Schedule, compliments of Alice Sharp, were made available to those who missed it at the last meeting.

Tricia Wente, show coordinator, invites submission of photographs in May to go on the postcard for our member show in July at Gallery North. Members who wish to participate, and all members are welcome to submit an entry, should attend the May meeting where Tricia will provide all pertinent information. If you have photos of BWS activities, e.g. paint outs, receptions, please submit them to Tricia via email ASAP.

The library is not available for May. The monthly meeting will take place at First Christian Church instead. Linda Meyer-Wright will present “Preserving Watercolors without Glass” at the May meeting. Bring a painting you would like to practice with.

Annual membership fees are due by the end of June. $25 regular members or $10 for students. Those persons who have joined since January are paid up through June 2009. Members may mail to PO Box 5236, Bloomington, IN 47407-5236, or bring checks, made payable to BWS, to the meetings.

Tricia reports that the Baker Place Gallery is still under discussion with the Waldron. The logistics of operation are being considered. If it does continue to be a possible venue, BWS members are welcome to participate. Tricia is the contact for BWS.

Full color flyers for the Judi Betts 5-day workshop are available to members who will distribute them. Judi advertises through several of her own venues as well. There is no limit to participants in our August workshop. Flyers have been mailed to approximately 25 art organizations, and will be distributed at the Fair on the Square. A follow-up email will also be sent with an attached e-flyer.

All Courthouse Centennial entries are due by Friday 5 pm.

Jeanne thanked Tricia and Jeanne Iler for their work on the Signature Status project. This was a considerable amount of work, determining the judging criteria, finding a judge outside the organization, gathering the art work from the applicants, and then arranging the presentation. Good work, ladies!

Tricia presented the honorees with certificates (designed by Jeanne Iler) and with engraved pens as tokens of their “Signature” accomplishment.
Congratulations to the new Signature Status members:
Connie Brorson
Shelley Frederick
Jacki Frey
Bonnie Gordon-Lucas
Jeanne Iler
Sandy Taylor
Sara Steffey-McQueen
Tricia Wente

Acceptance into juried shows is an important criterion for reaching Signature Status. For those artists interested in pursuing Signature Status in the future, Tricia distributed a list of juried shows where artists may apply.

Watch for the upcoming Indiana Heritage Arts show.

The meeting was adjourned, homemade goodies were enjoyed, and Jeanne introduced Ellen Starr-Lyon, assistant manager at Framemakers in Bloomington, and Ellen presented an informative look at important aspects of matting, framing, and presenting watercolor art.

Respectfully submitted,
Carol Rhodes, treasurer
