Jeanne thanked Carol Rhodes for “volunteering” to take minutes in the absence of the secretary, Jo Weddle. She also introduced newest member Linda Endris, and visitor Matthew Carey, son of member Elizabeth.

Also, thanks to Susan Blunck and Tina Allgood for the delicious desserts, and to Jacki Frey for the pita and homemade hummus on the refreshment table this evening.

The minutes were distributed electronically via the blog. Corrections were presented: the attendance listing should include James Yang, Tricia Wente, Linda Endris, and Sharon Parsons. Those corrections will be made. A motion was made by Nancy Metz, seconded by Jacki Frey, to approve the corrected minutes, and the motion was passed.

The Treasurer reports a balance of $1637.99. Carolyn Rogers Richard moved to approve the report, seconded by Tricia Wente. The report was approved as presented.

Tricia Wente, show chairperson, distributed information about the upcoming Membership Show at Gallery North on the Square.
a. The exhibit will be held between July 2 and July 25.
b. Delivery of one painting per member can be made on June 27 (4:00 – 7:00 p.m.) and on June 28 (11:00 – noon).
c. The reception is on Gallery Walk Friday, July 11, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
d. Nancy Metz is in charge of the reception. A sign-up sheet was circulated so people could indicate their planned contribution to the reception.
e. Gallery North will provide the bartenders to serve the wine, and compensate them for their time.
f. BWS will purchase a permit to serve wine through Gallery North.
g. Tricia distributed show guidelines, which will be posted on the blog.
h. Tricia is working on the post card design.

Sara Steffey-McQueen asked if the members could bring cards and prints to sell at the Gallery during the show. Jeanne asked Carolyn, Cathy Korinek, and Linda Meyer-Wright (all members of the Gallery North board and BWS) to discuss it and provide an answer.

Jacki Frey discussed the Judi Betts workshop in August and encouraged members to enroll. The question was asked if it was necessary to attend all five days. Jacki responded that Judi recommends it.

Jeanne Iler reported on “Art for All Seasons,” a joint venture between the Sycamore Land Trust and Gallery North. BWS is one of the selected organizations who have been invited to participate.

f. Submission to the show requires a $25 entry fee and digital photos.

Jeanne Dutton reminded the membership that dues of $25 for the 2008-2009 year are due by June 30th. Members may bring a check to the meeting in June, or may mail it to BWS, PO Box 5236, Bloomington, IN 47407-5236.
New Business

Jeanne Dutton reported that Gallery North’s ad in the upcoming Bloom issue will include a painting, “Study in Black and White,” by Cathy Korinek. This does “double duty” as an ad for the CRITTERS show at Gallery North and as an ad for the Membership Show.

Cathy also has had an entry accepted into the Swope Gallery in Terre Haute. Congratulations, Cathy!

Jeanne presented an idea to the membership: who would be interested in a tour of Twin Rocker Paper Manufacturer? Many members indicated by a show of hands that they would be interested in going. Jeanne explained a few of the details.
a. Cost is $9.00 per person.
b. The tour is three hours long, plus the trip will take two hours each way, plus time for lunch.
c. Drivers will be needed, and passengers will reimburse the drivers for the gasoline.
d. The members will hear a lecture on the process and history of papermaking at the factory, and then have an opportunity to paint on the different kinds of watercolor paper.
e. A 25% discount will be given on products by Twin Rocker.
f. Lunch will be at the Klein Brot Haus, a German bakery, next to the Twin Rocker.
g. Jeanne will check out football schedules and select an optimal date in the fall, and then will present the information at the meeting in September.

Miscellaneous Items:

Tricia Wente presented pens and certificates to Connie Brorson and Jeanne Iler; they were juried into Signature Status, but were unable to attend the presentation last month. Congratulations to Connie and Jeanne!

The June meeting will include the last minute Membership Show information, and Jacki Frey will present a summary of Rod Crossman’s workshop. Members who attended are asked to bring their work, finished or unfinished, to the June meeting and discuss what they learned.

The Business Meeting was adjourned, at which time Jeanne introduced and thanked Linda Meyer-Wright who presented an interactive demonstration on “Preserving Watercolors without Glass,” in which she demonstrated the techniques of waxing watercolor. Many thanks to Linda!

Respectfully submitted,

Jeanne Ellen Dutton
President
